About the project

The Nordic Network for Ambitious Nature Municipalities and Biosphere Reserves is a project that builds on MAB-LAB and aims to strengthen municipalities and biosphere reserves implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and pilot projects in the Nordic region. The Nordic Network for Ambitious Nature Municipalities and Biosphere Reserves builts on the foundations of the MAB-LAB project and is led by Møn Biosphere Reserve, with Vordingborg Municipality as the legal entity.

The aim is to enable municipalities across the Nordic region to actively implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) through knowledge sharing, peer learning,pilots for next pratice and collective policy development. The network will be developed through four structured phases aligned with the call's requirements.

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

In 2022 the Kunming-Montreal 'Global Biodiversity Framework' (popularly called GBF) was adopted as part of the UN Convention on Biodiversity. It features 23 targets to be met by 2030 and four overarching global goals to be achieved by 2050 in order to preserve biodiversity for current and future generations. 

The targets to be met by 2030 aims on stopping the global loss of biodiversity, while the goals towards 2050 focus on ensuring the progress of biodiversity globally.
